ON THE JOB!

Once upon a time, I had a job working at an airport in my country and I was working the night shift. It was my first time to work the night shift and I was very amused to find out that I wrote a poem about it. It was a while back, I remember it like yesterday.

My nights were made when a particular guy called Brian who worked with a local NGO that would relocate the Somali refugees in Kenya outside the country in the USA and other countries. On those nights, I would see his handsome figure guiding the people most of whom could neither speak nor understand the English language. He would kindly and patiently speak, guide them and take time explaining to each and every group what was expected of them. I would have loved to get to know him better, but I was way too young to understand anything.

I enjoyed the job since I ran into so many different people from all parts of the world and cultures. These people taught me a lot and to the point where I spoke and learned their ways and how to go about with salutations respectfully. Its surprising how much we can learn in a minute of sitting with a stranger. I had bad days too. A rose also has thorns and I had this to share about it on a bad day;

Hunger and boredom
Just sitting and waiting,
Watching until they all disappear,
All flying away,
Except for the staff that keeps them smiling.

Down deep in my heart,
Disappointent instead of pure pleasure
For my great expectations
have been greatly failed by the so called "Best Team'
As I smile for another day,
I bleed tears for my pay.

Is it about the money?
Or because I thought I finally got the "honey"?
My desk I fill with books and journals
All about our loving God,
But I feel I must relax,
for my tense head s aching.

Hopes diminished,
But the Joy I am, I keep on going
Watching and waiting
Hoping until...
For my heart wants; never to give up.

I Guess...!

We are here. No, no, I am here. Who thought that we could have made it this far. It has been a gruelling journey for most, a pleasant one for others and a happy one for most of us. I say most of us because for the friends that I have been with and myself, some personal achievements, new successes, family additions and much much more are what we experienced, some have been good, some have been bad. Focus on the bad and your energy goes down, focus on the good and you'll glow with positive energy.

Are you making your resolutions for 2017? Easier said than done.Yes, true, I have made new resolutions for as long as I can remember, I do not think I have achieved fifty percent of what I intended to do. I made goals and then I made a life mission statement and it worked. Its like following the "12steps" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-step_program, mostly associated with alcoholics, but the twelve steps do work. They work to break bad habits and many addictions, you need support if you are in this place.

Back to making the new year resolutions, not to discourage you or put you down, but what is your basis for making them? What do you intend to do to achieve them?  Personal experiences have shown me that you are only as strong as your will. Some of us have strong will when it comes to personal resolutions, others are driven by goals and others are simply driven by the fact that they can absolutely get anything they way, when they want it, others will use tact and others will use manipulation, others will take advantage of others' weaknesses, and all in all its the results that matter.

Once you know what it is you want, you go and get it. You can base it on your resolution, goal or mission statement, you can achieve it. So go and get it. It's a new year and you are a year older, why wait? Check it; put your resolutions into place, set your goals, have the dream and look for the resources then take the next step. Promise yourself that it will be a year of greatness and work hard achieving that greatness, learn when to speed up and when to brake. In anything you do, you can make a difference. In your life, that of your family, that of your friends, enemies (if  you have :-) ), neighbours, workmates and everyone around us. Be the change you want to make and make the difference you want to see.

Have a good one, people. It starts with you!
